Melissa D Lewis
Coach and ACE Certified Personal Trainer
Melissa has been an age group triathlete since 2004 and has competed in Ironman 70.3, Olympic and Sprint distance events. She has also raced in numerous running events since 2001 including the New York Marathon, the Nike Women’s Half Marathon and the Dipsea Race. After years of racing, Melissa has now shifted her focus to pursue her passion for coaching and personal training. Her personal experience as an athlete and a certified personal trainer provide her with a wealth of knowledge and understanding of an athlete’s training needs. She has a very supportive and personable coaching style that resonates with her athletes.
Melissa loves training athletes outdoors, biking throughout Marin, running the trails on Mt. Tamalpais and swimming in the open water. She also enjoys her time on the pool deck coaching the masters swim team at the Rafael Racquet Club in San Rafael. To provide a well rounded training program, she also offers one on one personal training to build strength and endurance in the gym.
Melissa has been an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified personal trainer since 2010 and a certified US Masters Swimming Coach since 2013. She is also a League of American Bicyclists Skills Instructor. She is a member of USA Triathlon, US Masters Swimming, and the Marin County Bicycle Coalition.

Melissa is supported by numerous fitness professionals and experienced athletes who offer a variety of workshops and seminars throughout each training session. They include: Julia Violich, retired professional cyclist; Sunny Blende, endurance sports nutritionist; Shari Tracy, former USA Swimming coach and age group triathlete; Laura Burtch Zovichian, open water swimmer and masters swim coach; and Hazel Wood, Chi Running instructor.
Julia Violich is a retired professional cyclist. She was a two time national champion and represented the US at the world championships. She was the previous owner of Paradigm Cycles in San Anselmo, CA. Julia brings her expertise as a biomechanical and fit specialist as well as her love of coaching to TriNow athletes.
Sunny Blende is a frequent presenter and writer on sports nutrition, fueling for enhanced performance and making healthy food choices. She currently works with individuals and teams in many endurance and resistance sports. An avid master competitor herself, she trains and competes in the Bay area and beyond. Sunny received her BS degree from USC and her Masters from University of New Haven. She also teaches Sports Nutrition at College of Marin and is the nutrition columnist for UltraRunning Magazine.
Shari Tracy is a former USA swimming coach and she provides stroke evaluations and technique clinics for TriNow athletes. She is also a competitive age group triathlete and enjoys racing Olympic and 70.3 Ironman distances. She is passionate about training and staying fit and her endless and energy and enthusiasm are an inspiration to everyone.
Laura Burtch Zovickian
Laura Burtch Zovickian is a Marathon swimmer. She has completed the English Channel, Race around Manhattan, Race around Coronado, Capitola to Santa Cruz and a variety of open water swims. She has decades of experience swimming in the San Francisco Bay. She also teaches swim technique and provides coaching for masters swimmers. Laura enjoys assisting triathletes to feel comfortable in open water and ultimately conﬁdent with their open water skills and race strategy.
